Prayer & Praise

~ Andrea Fehr is involved with providing leadership to a group of YWAM participants, who are planning to travel to Uganda.  They will be serving with a ministry called “Show Mercy” for a period of two months.  This will be a challenging assignment, but one which she is very excited about.  She covets our prayers for protection and wisdom.  We want to wish her and the team God’s blessings on their travels and ministry.

~ This has been a rollercoaster week for Tenley Falk and her mom Jaime, as well as for the rest of the family.  From experiencing much pain, fever, coughing, chills to having these symptoms virtually disappear on to have them reappear again, has made for a very challenging stay in the hospital.  At this point, their time in the hospital is indefinite.  It can be discouraging to go through such sudden ups and downs.  Thank you for your continued prayers on behalf of the entire family.  We continue to rely on God’s grace and mercy in our time of need.  Updates can be found at: http://www.tenleysjourney.wordpress.com

~ Alfred Theodor Wieler passed away at home in Morden on Wednesday, January 25, 2017.  He grew up in Rosetown and was baptized in this church on May 17, 1959 by Rev. Paul Schaefer.

~ Those in various care homes that we remember in our prayers include: Susan Janzen, Trudy Harms, Helen Fehr, Helen Janzen, and Jake Rempel.

~We continue to offer our prayer support for Laure and her family, as well as for the Paroisse Missionaire Congregation in Kinshasa, DR Congo; Ryan Thiessen in San Carlos, Mexico, Murray and Carol Honsberger in Papua New Guinea, Eagles Wings Children’s Village in Uganda, Jon & Natalie Neudorf in Chiang Mai, Thailand working with YWAM, Andrea Fehr with YWAM in Hawai’i

Prayer for the week:

We confess You to be the God who calls, who wills, who summons, who has clear intentions for Your creation and addresses human agents who do Your will.  We know ourselves to be called by You but also cowardly, obedient yet self-indulgent, devoted to You but also otherwise preoccupied.  In the midst of this strange mix, we do give You thanks for Your call, and we pray for fresh wisdom, great courage, and a deep desire for connectedness with You as the source of our physical and spiritual life.  In the strong name of Jesus we pray.  Amen.

Memory Passage

 Ephesians 6: 10 – 20 NIV

  1. Finally, be strong in the Lord and in His mighty power. 11. Put on the full armor of God so that you can take your stand against the devil’s schemes. 12. For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms. 13. Therefore put on the full armor of God, so that when the day of evil comes, you may be able to stand your ground, and after you have done everything, to stand. 14. Stand firm then, with the belt of truth buckled around your waist, with the breastplate of righteousness in place, 15. And with your feet fitted with the readiness that comes from the gospel of peace. 16. In addition to all this, take up the shield of faith, with which you can extinguish all the flaming arrows of the evil one. 17. Take the helmet of salvation and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God. 18. And pray in the Spirit on all occasions with all kinds of prayers and requests.  With this in mind, be alert and always keep on praying for all the saints.
  2. Pray also for me, that whenever I open my mouth, words may be given me so that I will fearlessly make known the mystery of the gospel, 20.for which I am an ambassador in chains. Pray that I may declare it fearlessly, as I should.

Urgent Prayer Requests from Mennonite Church Canada:

As our thoughts turn to the birth place of Jesus, the Prince of Peace, we are again reminded to pray for people in conflict all around the world. Bock Ki Kim and Sook Kyoung Park, MC Canada Witness Workers in South Korea, invite your prayers for during a time of great political unrest. President Park Guen-hye was impeached on Dec. 9, 2016 for abuse of power, corruption and scandal. Protestors are calling for Park Guen-hye’s removal from office. Bock Ki and Sook Kyoung have noticed some protestors carrying torches instead of candle lights. Traditionally, torches symbolize peasant revolution. Please pray that amidst the current political crises, Mennonite Church in South Korea may encourage helpful dialogue and non-violent action according to the way of Jesus Christ.

Prayer & Praise

Christmas Litany

L: Emmanuel, we affirm that you are God-with-us this Christmas morning and all the days of the year.

P: Emmanuel, we confess that we need both the tender words of the Comforter and the shouted challenge of the herald.

L: Emmanuel, we believe that you are the Shepherd of our lives;

P: We come this morning to be nurtured for strength;

L: We come this morning to be gathered from the scatteredness and fragmentation of our hurried days;

P: We come this morning to be held and carried through the places of pain, sorrow and fear;

All: we come this morning to be gently led into new paths of service as we become, by your strength, your shepherds for one another.

L: And so hear us, Emmanuel, as we pray together your prayer

Prayer & Praise

~ Thank you to Music committee for planning and directing a wonderful evening for all of us during our candlelight service on Christmas Eve.  The “What if” the story had not happened was replaced by the reality of what did take place.  Thanks be to God for such an expression of love, a babe in a manger, a gift to a world in need of purpose and direction.

~ Welcome to our Christmas Day Worship Service.  this morning we are invited to rejoice with the angels for the birth of the One foretold so long ago.  We come like the shepherds ready to worship and bow down, then to go and tell the news about the One born to be our Savior, Redeemer and King.

~ Rudy & Kathy would like to take this opportunity to thank you for all the cards, pictures which you have sent our way.  This is a wonderful reminder of all the people who have responded to the call to be the church here in Rosetown.  We appreciate your many gestures of kindness and generosity.

~ We trust that this Christmas season will in its own way, be a blessing for Tenley Falk and her family.  May this Prince of Peace find room in your hearts and minds, even in unexpected ways. Updates can be found at: http://www.tenleysjourney.wordpress.com

~ Those in various care homes that we remember in our prayers include: Susan Janzen, Trudy Harms, Helen Fehr, Helen Janzen, and Jake Rempel.

Christmas Blessing:

May the humility of the Shepherds, the perseverance of the Wise Men, the joy of the angels, and the peace of the Christ-Child be God’s gifts to us and to people everywhere this Christmas season.  And may the blessing of the Christ-Child be upon us always.   Amen.

Prayer for the Week:

Son of God, in the bleak midwinter when the light is dim and we wonder where You are, give us eyes to see the stars shine in the darkest night sky.  In the tiny fingers of a newborn baby, we find infinite hope.  In the shadows of our ordinary lives, may we see You open your arms to receive us again.  Remind us that You come to us in the form of a child.  May we experience the light of Your presence in the unexpected places of our lives as we open our hearts to receive Your love.  Amen.

~ Contributions to the mitten tree are welcomed and very much appreciated.  Mittens, scarves, toques, gloves, socks and slippers are welcomed to fill a need in our local schools.  Each week, the tree will be emptied and its contents distributed to a different school in our community.  Thank you for your generosity and kindness.

There will be no Sunday school on December 25 or January 1.

~ Each year we have a sharing Sunday on the last Sunday of the year.  However this year the last Sunday of the year is on Christmas Day.  Thus Church Council has suggested that our sharing Sunday take place on January 1, 2017.  As we have in the past, we would invite the congregation to gather downstairs for breakfast at 9 am followed by our worship service to be held downstairs as well.  We invite your participation by bringing items to share such as a story, poem, scripture verses, song, instrumental piece, whatever it is that would be important to share with the rest of the congregation.

Prayer & Praise

~          Welcome to this first Sunday of Advent, the time when we are reminded of the words of the angels to the shepherds, “…to you is born this day in the city of David a Savior, who is Christ the Lord”.  We are also reminded of the promise of Christ’s return and look forward with anticipation when as Paul says to the church at Thessalonica, “We shall meet Him in the air and we shall be with Him always.”

~Thank you to all those who have signed up to bring cookies to our Clubs members.  There are still a few open dates available.  Check the sign-up sheet on the bulletin board.  If you have any questions, call Ang Driedger at 327-6674 or email angiedee4@hotmail.com

~ Congratulations to Melissa Penner and Jonathan Wiebe, who were married, Saturday, November 26.  We trust that you will experience much joy as you live our your commitment which you have made to God and one another.

~ Let us continue to remember Tenley Falk and her family in our prayers during this time of isolation.  May the Christ of Advent also come and be visible in your home and your hearts as you prepare for this Christmas season.  Updates can be found at: http://www.tenleysjourney.wordpress.com

~ We as a congregation have been blessed by the ministry of dedicated and caring deacons.  It continues to be an important ministry in the life of our congregation, even though much of the work is done behind the scenes.  We seek to uphold one another in prayer, encourage each other, comfort and challenge each other, so that the body of Christ may be built up.  Currently we have 3 positions which we would like to fill.  We would ask you to prayerfully consider this matter.  May God prepare all of our hearts as we seek to discern His will.  We would like to proceed with nominations, next Sunday, December 4, 2016.

~Those in various care homes that we remember in our prayers include: Susan Janzen, Trudy Harms, Helen Fehr, Helen Janzen, and Jake Rempel.

~ We continue to offer our prayer support for Laure and her family, as well as for the Paroisse Missionaire Congregation in Kinshasa, DR Congo; Ryan Thiessen in San Carlos, Mexico Murray and Carol Honsberger in Papua New Guinea, Eagles Wings Children’s Village in Uganda, Jon & Natalie Neudorf in Chiang Mai, Thailand working with YWAM, Andrea Fehr with YWAM in Hawai’i, Kendra Fehr studying with  YWAM in San Diego, CA updates: http://kendrafehr.weebly.com/blog

Prayer for the Week:

We come, our God, seeking light, to reveal Your majesty, to clear our blindness, to illumine our understanding.  Come into our hearts and lives as we worship so that we may serve in Your kingdom as bearers of light and guide others to the light. Amen
