Prayer & Praise

~ We are grateful for the opportunity to have been able to have had our Sunday school Celebration Sunday Worship Service outside on such a beautiful day last Sunday.  Thank you again for all those involved in planning and being involved in the service.  Thank you also to all those who brought food to share.

~ We continue to uphold in prayer those who are dealing with continued health issues.  Tim Wiebe has now completed his fourth week of chemo and radiation treatments.  Nettie Ginter will begin her treatments at the end of September.  Tenley Falk, who continues her maintenance schedule in the midst of a busy school scheduleUpdates can be found at: htttp://www.tenleysjourney.wordpress.com

~ Violence and unrest continues in the Democratic Republic of the Congo.  Mennonite churches have been also affected and Christians have been displaced and killed.  Also, continued cleanup continues for all those affected by recent hurricanes in the Caribbean and the United States, as they experience great upheaval, loss of life and forced displacement.  We remember also the many lives affected by the devastating consequences of recent hurricanes in the Caribbean, Mexico and the United States; those affected by forest fires in Montana, Western Canada and in Northern Manitoba. Widespread destruction will take a long time to repair.  We pray for shelter, resources of people and material to help restore all the destruction.  We pray that God’s will of reconciliation and peace will replace violence and the continued devaluing of people’s lives.

~ Those in various care homes that we remember in our prayers include: Trudy Harms, Helen Janzen, and Jake Rempel.

~We continue to offer our prayer support for Laure and her family, as well as for the Paroisse Missionaire Congregation in Kinshasa, DR Congo; Ryan Thiessen in San Carlos, Mexico; Murray and Carol Honsberger in Papua New Guinea, Eagles Wings Children’s Village in Uganda, Jon & Natalie Neudorf in Chiang Mai, Thailand working with YWAM,  and Andrea Fehr with YWAM in Hawai’i

Prayer for the Week:

God, sovereign and generous, who commands the rise and fall of the nations, who calls and has chosen many peoples, who weeps when they harm each other, who challenges all cultures with Your will for well-being, who draws close to the powerless and surprises with power shown in weakness.  You are the One whom we praise in astonishment, we adore in gladness, we thank in gratitude, for who You are, for what You do, for how You hope.  Look with mercy on us this day, on churches, on communities and cities, on families where we strive to do Your will.  Guide our obedience now and always.  Amen

~ We Continue to remember our brothers and sisters in the Democratic Republic of the Congo as they experience great upheaval, loss of life and forced displacement.  We remember also the many lives affected by the devastating consequences of recent hurricanes in the Caribbean and the United States.  Many have lost their homes and even the lives of loved ones.

Prayer for the Week:

Grant Lord, to all who study and those who teach them, the grace to love that which is worth loving, to know that which is worth knowing, to value what is most precious to You, and to reject what is not in keeping with Your will and purpose.  Give them a true sense of judgment, and the wisdom to see beneath the surface of things.  Above all, may they search out and do what is pleasing to You, through Jesus the Christ, our Lord.  Amen.

Prayer & Praise

~ This week marks the return to the classroom for many students and teachers.  For some this is fairly routine, for others it represents something very new and different.  We trust that our God will enable all of you to be sustained throughout this transition.  May you be blessed by another year of growth and learning.

~ We continue our prayer support for Tim Wiebe who has completed his second week of chemo and radiation.  We remember also, Nettie Ginter who is about to begin her round of treatments.  For these people and their families we pray for God’s protection, healing and the sustaining power of His continued presence.

~ We pray for Tenley Falk and her family, for the beginning of another school year in the midst of continued treatments. May you also know yourselves to be sustained by the continued presence of our Lord.  Updates can be found at: htttp://www.tenleysjourney.wordpress.com

~ Tuesday, September 5 is the date for our monthly 24 hour prayer vigil for Eagles Wings Children’s Village in Uganda.  Thank you for your continued prayer support for this important outreach and ministry in the lives of people needing food, lodging, education, family and an active demonstration of the love of God.

~ We also continue to remember out brothers and sisters around the world who face persecution, upheaval and violence.  Most recently the Congo has experienced much chaos with many people being killed and over a million displaced.  We pray that an end to the political turmoil would become a reality and that those responsible for all the bloodshed would once again lay down their weapons.

Prayer for the Week:

Gracious God, we hear You calling.  You have shown us hope and You offer us courage.  We come to You as people who long to walk Your pathways of grace and love.  However, God, at times we get discouraged by our living, afraid of difficult experiences, despairing of the challenges that lie ahead.  We become weary.  Care for us on our journey, God.  Help us to know that Your love is always there to surround and sustain us.  Breathe Your holy calm into our sometimes road weary lives so we may continue to be transformed to be Your people.  Amen.

~ We are grateful for the opportunity of harvest.  From garden produce, fruit from the trees, grain from the fields, we give thanks to God for giving the increase.  For all who are harvesting we pray for safety, patience and perseverance.

~ Tim Wiebe began his treatments this past Monday.  Also, Nettie Ginter is expecting to begin her follow up treatments shortly.  We pray for peace of mind for these people and their families during this time of stress and uncertainty.

~ We continue to uphold Tenley Falk and her family during this maintenance phase of treatments.  Despite not having to visit the emergency unit at the hospital as often, there is still room for continued anxiety and emotional fatigue to mark their influence.  May our Lord, the source of our calm in the midst of the storm, grant reassurance and peace of mind.  Updates can be found at: htttp://www.tenleysjourney.wordpress.com

~ We recognize that the beginning of another school year is just around the corner and we want to acknowledge all the preparations students and teachers are making to prepare themselves.  We want to wish you well and God’s blessings in anticipation of another year of growth and learning.

Prayer for the week:  (From Psalm 31:1-2, 5)

To you, O Lord, I come for refuge, do not let me be put to shame, deliver me in Your righteousness, incline Your ear to me, make haste to help me, for You are my strong rock and my fortress.   Into Your hand I commit my spirit, for You have redeemed me, O Lord, faithful God.  Amen.

~ We continue to uphold in our prayers, our brothers and sisters, around the globe, who are experiencing violence and persecution, especially in the Congo.  As was mentioned last Sunday, thousands of people have been killed, over 40 mass graves have been discovered, and roughly 1.4 million people have been displaced, including 850,000 children.  In the midst of such destruction and violence we continue to pray for God’s peace to reign so there will be a resolution to the chaos.

Prayer & Praise

~ Congratulations to Chris & Yvonne Giesbrecht on the birth of their daughter, Isadora Scarlett, on Sunday, August 13, 2017. She is a sister for Anastasia.  Proud grandparents are Joe & Janet Giesbrecht.  We trust that God will provide wisdom and much joy as you assume the responsibility of parents to the children entrusted to you.

~ Tim Wiebe will begin treatments for brain cancer starting on Monday, August 21.  Nettie Ginter has found out that her treatments will include both chemotherapy and radiation, these will be starting shortly.  May both these families find renewed inspiration in the fact that our hope is in the Lord, the One who is our Good Shepherd.

~ We trust that Tenley Falk and her family have been able to experience some family time this summer which has included opportunities which this season has to offer.  We pray for continued perseverance and healing.  Updates can be found at: htttp://www.tenleysjourney.wordpress.com

~ Those in various care homes that we remember in our prayers include: Trudy Harms, Helen Janzen, and Jake Rempel

~ We continue to offer our prayer support for Laure and her family as well as for the Paroisse Missionaire Congregation in Kinshasa, DR Congo; Ryan Thiessen in San Carlos, Mexico; Murray and Carol Honsberger in Papua New Guinea, and Eagles Wings Children’s Village in Uganda, Jon & Natalie Neudorf in Chiang Mai, Thailand working with YWAM, Andrea Fehr, working with YWAM in Hawai’i.

~ We are nearing the end of the summer camp program.  Lauren Fehr has spent much of her summer working at Winkler Bible Camp.  We trust that you will be able to finish well; that God will provide the needed energy and courage for the final upcoming week.

~ Since the murder of Mennonite peace worker, Michael J Sharp, in the Congo, last March, violence in the Congo’s 3 Kasai provinces where most of the Mennonite churches are located, continues to leave suffering and destruction in its wake.  Thousands of people have been killed, over 40 mass graves have been discovered, and recent reports indicate that roughly 1.4 million people have been displaced including 850,000 children.  One person commented,

“The atrocities are beyond imagination. The evil is beyond telling.  Government and tribal leaders with tunnel vision have fanned the flames of ethnic rivalries that have created a hell on earth.”  Political turmoil and conflict over global demand for Congo’s rich mineral resources have fuelled the carnage.  We pray for our brothers and sisters, for children, for God’s peace for a resolution to the chaos.

 Prayer for the Week:

Spirit of comfort and longing, enfold my fear, unclothe me of my pride, unweave my thoughts, uncomplicate

my heart, and give me surrender; so that Your presence as healing oil may come into my weary mind, my bruised heart and my dried up soul.  Amen.

Psalm 121

A song of ascents

  1. I lift up my eyes to the mountains – where does my help come from?
  2. My help comes from the Lord, the Maker of heaven and earth.
  3. He will not let your foot slip – He who watches over you will not slumber;
  4. Indeed, he who watches over Israel will neither slumber nor sleep.
  5. The Lord watches over you – the Lord is your shade at your right hand;
  6. The sun will not harm you by day, not the moon by night.
  7. The Lord will keep you from all harm – He will watch over your life;
  8. The Lord will watch over your coming and going both now and forevermore.

~ We are grateful for a very busy week of DVBS these past days.  Thank you so much to Sara Wall for co-ordinating this event.  Thank you to the many leaders who gave of their time, energy, and demonstrated their love for Jesus and the children in so many tangible ways.  We trust that the seeds of God’s love will have been planted and will continue to grow.

~ The funeral for Helene Klassen (nee Hildebrandt) of Cartwright was held on Saturday, July 8.  She is the sister of Peter E Hildebrandt & Eva Schellenberg and the aunt of Ed & Joyce, Rick & Dorothy and Sandra Klassen.  May the Lord of all be near to you in your time of sorrow, and may you find comfort in His arms.

~ On Tuesday, July 18, Nettie Ginter has an appointment with the doctor at which time she is hoping they will set a date for her surgery.  She and the family value our ongoing prayer support and words of encouragement.

~ It has been heartening to hear that Tenley Falk was able to participate in the schools year end activities, and along with her family is looking forward to a different pace of life during the summer holidays.  We want to wish you God’s continued protection and health.

O Keeper of Faith, help us to keep the faith entrusted to us; faith in a world worth saving, faith in a dream worth sharing, faith in a heritage worth keeping.  Help us to keep faith in You, and help us not to lose faith in ourselves, for faith is the substance of our hope, and hope is the assurance of love.  Praise to You, O Faithful One.  Amen.

Psalm 23

A Psalm of David.

The Lord is my Shepherd, I shall not be in want.

 He makes me lie down in green pastures, He leads me beside quiet waters,
He restores my soul. He guides me in paths of righteousness
for His name’s sake.
Even though I walk   through the valley of the shadow of death,
I will fear no evil,
for You are with me;
Your rod and Your staff,
they comfort me.

You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies.

You anoint my head with oil; my cup overflows.

Surely Your goodness and love will follow me all the days of my life,

and I will dwell in the house of the Lord forever.
