Prayer & Praise

~ We are grateful that Tenley Falk has responded positively to the medications she has been receiving.  However others in the household have picked up whatever it was that she had.  We continue to pray for health and wholeness for all in the family.  Updates can be found at htttp://www.tenleysjourney.wordpress.com

~ We are also grateful for the rain which fell last weekend.  We have been given great weather for the planting season.  What a marvellous transformation to see how the color green replaces the brown.  Thanks be to God for the rhythms of the seasons.

~ Pray for the thousands of Mennonites in the Democratic Republic of Congo who have gone into hiding to escape the violence that has claimed hundreds of lives.  Pray that God would provide life’s necessities for those who have fled their homes, for stable national leadership and for an end to the fighting.

~ From the World Council of Churches: Continue to pray for those impacted by the shortage of food.  More people face famine today than any time in modern history.  Famine has been declared in areas of South Sudan, with Somalia, Nigeria, and Yemen on the brink of famine.  More than 20 million people are at risk of starvation in these four countries alone. Globally, millions more suffer from drought and food shortages.  The UN is calling this the largest humanitarian crisis since 1945. Churches have a prophetic role in calling its members, wider society and governments to make a difference during this unprecedented period of suffering.  To learn more, please visit: www.praytoendfamine.org

~ School of the Kingdom invites you to ‘Met by Love: a Final Tribute to SOTK’! Join us on Thursday, June 1st at 7pm at Gospel Mission Church in Winkler as we worship our Father and share testimonies of the amazing things He has done in and through the school! As the school will not be continuing, this will be our last SOTK event. Please visit our Facebook page for more information. We hope you can join us!

~ Murray & Carol Honsberger are deeply saddened by the death of a close friend and colleague, Carl Campbell, who passed away suddenly on May 19, 2017. His wife, Jody, passed away in 2013.  Together they gave more than 30  years of their lives so that the Yale people would have God’s word in their own heart language.  We are asked to pray that others will take up the challenge to carry on.  Please pray for Carl’s family.  He is survived by 3 adult children, Karis, Emily and Robert and three grandchildren, Jezelee (6), JD (6) and Jaxton (18 mos).

~ Those in various care homes that we remember in our prayers include: Trudy Harms, Helen Janzen, and Jake Rempel.

~We continue to offer our prayer support for Laure and her family, as well as for the Paroisse Missionaire Congregation in Kinshasa, DR Congo; Ryan Thiessen in San Carlos, Mexico; Murray and Carol Honsberger in Papua New Guinea, Eagles Wings Children’s Village in Uganda, Jon & Natalie Neudorf in Chiang Mai, Thailand working with YWAM,  and Andrea Fehr with YWAM in Hawai’i

Prayer for the Week:

O God, You are the One to whom we reach out, mystery beyond human thinking, love beyond our comprehending.  Because of Your love, You have reached out to us, joining us to Christ, taken us into the very heart of Your divine life.  You, Yourself have come to dwell around and within us, bidding us to follow You.  Guide our minds, our feet, our heart on this journey with You.  Amen.

~ June 4 is Pentecost Sunday.  This year we do not have any baptismal candidates. However, we would like to give time for affirmation of our lay ministers, Walter Dyck, Jake Friesen and Esther Zacharias, who have accepted an additional term of five years.  We have valued their work among us these past 3 years and would like to show our support for this next term of service.

We would also like to give time for anyone to share how the Spirit has been active in their lives or in the lives of others.  What is it that would be important for the rest of the congregation to hear.  Perhaps a word of encouragement, a challenge, scripture, a prayer, whatever form of sharing would be acceptable.  We would like to end our service with sharing communion together as the body of Christ.

Prayer for the Week:

God of truth, save us from a religion of mere words; from repeating pious phrases which have lost their meaning; from uttering empty prayers which have no soul; from calling Jesus ‘Lord, Lord’, when we fail to own His sovereignty.  We pray that the Gospel may come into our lives not in word only, but also in the power of the Spirit and that our love may not be a matter of words or talk, but that it is genuine and show itself in action.  Help us, our Father, to mean this prayer as we ask it in the name of Jesus our Lord.  Amen.

Sing to the Lord, a new song: sing to the Lord all the earth.  Sing to the Lord, bless His name, tell of His salvation from day to day.  Declare His glory among the nations, His marvelous works among all the peoples.  For great is the Lord, and greatly to be praised, He is to be feared above all gods.  For all the gods of the peoples are idols, but the Lord made the heavens. Honor and majesty are before Him, strength and beauty are in His sanctuary.   Amen.

Prayer for the Week:

Lord, your voice has endlessly summoned us to listen, listen up, pay attention, heed, obey, and turn.  So often in our busyness, in our self-absorption we tend not to hear Your voice.  So we pray for ears to be open and attentive.  Call us by name so that we know, call us to You so that we live, call us into the world so that we care, call us to risk so that we trust beyond ourselves.  When You speak and we listen then comes life abundant, beyond all that we ask or think.   Amen.
