~ We anticipate the return of Jon & Natalie Neudorf in a couple of weeks.  We pray that their transition away from their work as well as adjusting to life and climate in Manitoba will be surrounded by a continued sense of God’s presence.

~ Boys & Girls clubs on Wednesdays, from 7-830pm.  A cookie sign- up sheet is in the front foyer. Feel free to message or call Rachelle Loewen with questions 362-8323

~ Continue in prayer for Tenley Falk and family, and Nettie Ginter and family, Tim Wiebe and family as they continue to deal with the challenges of after effects of treatments.

~ Dave Rempel as he continues to recover from knee surgery.

~ Kelly Fehr as she continues to look for help in getting her energy back.

Prayer for the Week:

Holy God, we thank you that you deal with us not according to our sins, nor punish us as we deserve, but receive us according to Your overflowing grace and Your unmeasurable mercy.  You receive us as we are; You show us what we can be.  You have come to us in Jesus the Christ to share our common lot and to reconcile us to Yourself.  Sweep over us with Your Spirit, change us by Your love, resolve our alienation.  Let us be made whole to sing with joy before You and live to Your glory in the world.  Amen.

Men and women of any age, if you enjoy holding babies (!), playing with small children, or just want to encourage the young parents in this way, Glenda Fehr would love to hear from you. Some people have already said they’d like to help out here, check the sign- up sheet in the foyer.

It’s only for an hour. Help out for 1 Sunday, a few, or all of the 8 Sundays. It’s sure to be a ton of fun!

~ Welcome to our Parent/Child Dedication Service.  Those who are involved in this part of the service are: Sara Gerling with her 2 sons, Jack Christian & Ethan David; Eric & Jessica Giesbrecht, with their son, James Torin; John & Melissa Wiebe with their 2 daughters, Wynter Angel & Makayla Fern; Ryan & Jodi Friesen with their daughter, Charis Faith; Matthew & Lisa Krahn with their son, Grayson James.  We want to wish you God’s blessing as you commit yourselves to the task of being Christian parents to those who have been entrusted to you. 

~ Bernie Kehler returned home this past Tuesday after his heart surgery.  He appreciates being at home as each day the pain is subsiding and his energy is slowly returning. 

Dave Rempel continues to recover from his knee replacement surgery.  He was able to attend his first physiotherapy session this week. 

~ We have been invited by a Christian family of the Eritrean Community of Winnipeg to be sponsors for 2 members of their extended family who are currently living as refugees in Sudan.  These members are both couples one in their 20’s who have no children and the other in their 60’s whose children are living elsewhere in the world and would not be coming with them to Canada.  What is our calling in response to this invitation?  We need to be in agreement about whether we begin the process of application or not.  We would like to take time at our annual fall congregational meeting on November 11 to discuss this.  More details will be forthcoming.  We are invited to pray as we discern our response.   

~ Jon & Natalie Neudorf are planning to return home from Thailand at the end of November, 2018.  The work which they have begun in Chang Mai will be taken over by the local leadership.  Jon & Natalie are comfortable with the transition of ministry and are looking forward to reconnecting with family and friends.  We want to uphold them in our prayers during this time of transition and we praise God for their faithful ministry during these last 4 years.

O God, we place our children in Your hands.  We ask not that You shield them from difficulty, but that You will give them the strength to face it; not that You will protect them from making mistakes, but that they may be able to learn from them; not that their lives will be easy, but that they will deal with its challenges courageously.  Be with them when they are vulnerable, protect them from lasting harm and keep them always in Your love.  Amen.

~ We pray for God’s blessing, a deep sense of commitment and joy for Cindy Friesen and Malcolm Klassen, as they make final arrangements for their upcoming wedding on November 10, 2018.

~ Thank you from Hedy & John Falk for the many cards, hugs, flowers, meals and gifts in honor of our Mother, Anna Woelk, who passed a few weeks ago.  Your thoughtfulness is appreciated.

~ Monday, November 5, marks the date for our monthly 24 hour prayer vigil for Eagles Wings Children’s Village in Uganda.  We also pray for continued health for Ann Peckham as she undergoes surgery and follow up treatments during their time in Canada.

O God, our source of Strength, we seek courage to worship You with our whole selves, for to do so may change us.  Move among and within us, shelter us when we fear the seeming emptiness of our silence. Fill us, when futility and frustration threaten to paralyze us, so that we may be living, loving hands and feet, instruments of Your Truth, Grace and Love.  May we and our world today know moments of living with purpose, enthusiasm and courage and may such moments grow in glory to Your Name and Power.  Amen.

Prayer & Praise

~ There were funerals this past week for two of our members who were in Personal Care Homes.  On Tuesday, October 23, 2018, Lena Rempel, from Riverview Health Centre and on Friday, October 26, 2018 Trudy Harms, from Eastview Place in Altona were both laid to rest.  We trust that their families will continue to find comfort in God’s presence with them.  Also may the hope of the resurrection continue to sustain all of us in our journey of faith.

~ Let us uphold Dave Rempel in our prayers as he goes in for his second knee replacement surgery on Friday, November 2, 2018.

~ Jon & Natalie Neudorf are planning to return home from Thailand at the end of November, 2018.  The work which they have begun in Chang Mai will be taken over by the local leadership.  Jon & Natalie are comfortable with the transition of ministry and are looking forward to reconnecting with family and friends.  We want to uphold them in our prayers during this time of transition and we praise God for their faithful ministry during these last 4 years.

~ Thanks to everyone who has offered or said “yes” to helping with this years’ club season. We plan to run Nov 7 – March 20 from 7-830pm. I will be posting a cookie sign- up sheet in the front foyer. Feel free to message or call Rachelle Loewen with questions 362-8323

Living God, source of Light and Life, we come to You as broken members of Your Body; Your strength is our strength, Your Health is our health, and Your Being is our being.  Grant us Your wisdom in our work, Your Love in our pain and Your Peace in our hearts.  Send Your blessing on all those who care for the sick, and those whom they serve, and give us the joy of everlasting love.  In the name of Jesus, Your Son, we pray, Amen.

It’s only for an hour. Help out for 1 Sunday, a few, or all of the 8 Sundays. It’s sure to be a ton of fun!

~ Please join us at Mennonite Collegiate Institute in Gretna for our annual Soup & Pie Fundraiser and Fall Concert on November 2.  Supper will start at 5:00, followed by the Annual General Meeting at 6:30 (for all interested parties) and closing off the evening in Buhler Hall with our fall concert at 7:30.

~ Ten Thousand Villages Altona is currently looking for volunteers to work in the store, operating the cash register and assisting customers, and one or two volunteers to open and close the store on a rotating basis. ~ The funeral service for Anna Woelk, mother of Hedy & John Falk was held on Friday, October 19 in Winnipeg.  We want to wish the family a sense of God’s peace and presence during this time.  May God continue to be your good Shepherd during all of life’s experiences.

~ The funeral service for Isaak Peters, of Winkler was held on October 16.  He is the grandfather of Erika & Seth Klassen.   May God be near to all as you mourn the loss of someone special in your lives. 

~ It’s that time of year again! Clubs is right around the corner. Once again we are looking for leaders. We plan to start in November. Clubs is not a big commitment since it’s only every Wednesday. Welcome to our Songs of Praise Sunday.  We want to express our appreciation to the Music Committee for planning this service.  we also give thanks to God for so many reasons to give \praise to His name and for the ability to do so.

~ Congratulations and  God’s blessings upon Mitchell Peters and Kristina Zacharias who were married on Saturday, October 6, 2018, here in the Blumenort Mennonite Church.  We trust you will find joy in living out your commitment under the Lordship of Jesus the Christ.

~ Thank you to the Decorating Committee for the display at our Thanksgiving Service last Sunday.  Well done.  Thank you also to the Food Committee for preparing such an excellent noon meal for us.

~ It’s that time of year again! Clubs is right around the corner. Once again we are looking for leaders. We plan to start in November. Clubs is not a big commitment since it’s only every Wednesday. Teaching materials will be provided. Feel free to contact Rachelle Loewen @ 362-8323 if you have any questions or would like to be a leader

~ Church Council has set the date for the Fall Annual Congregational Meeting on Sunday, November 11, 2018 after a noon meal.  Reports from all committees should be in by October 21, 2018. If you are unsure of whether or not you need to write a report, either email or call the office.  Hedy would like to have the report books ready for Sunday, November 4, 2018.

~ From the Finance Committee:  Income from last Sunday was

$ 27,483.00; total Income from Jan 1 – Sept 30 = $ 224, 717.30. Expenses to the end of September are $ 239,875.83

Current deficit is $ 15, 158.53.   Expected expenses for the next quarter = approximately $ 50,000.  Thank you for your continued support.

~ We are looking for a used crib for our nursery. We could also use a few more high chairs.  If you have either of these items, please contact Heidi Houle or Cassie Giesbrecht.

~ It is good to give to our God the praise that is his. Are you interested in sharing your musical gifts? We are looking for people willing to play offertory & prelude, special music, etc.

~ Wanting to bless the young parents in our church, the education committee is planning to put childcare in place for the parents wanting to attend the parenting class beginning October 14.

Men and women of any age, if you enjoy holding babies (!), playing with small children, or just want to encourage the young parents in this way, Glenda Fehr would love to hear from you. Some people have already said they’d like to help out here, check the sign- up sheet in the foyer.

It’s only for an hour. Help out for 1 Sunday, a few, or all of the 8 Sundays. It’s sure to be a ton of fun!

~ Continue in prayer for Tenley Falk and family, and Nettie Ginter and family, Tim Wiebe and family as they continue to deal with the challenges of after effects of treatments.

~ Kelly Fehr is feeling well and is slowly going back to work. The family would like to thank you all for your prayers, they have been appreciated.

~ John Krahn, brother-in-law of Paul & Elizabeth Peters, passed away early Thursday morning. We do want to wish the family God’s continued comfort and peace during this time. The funeral takes place on Monday, October 1 at 2 pm in the Grace Mennonite Church in Winkler.

~ Harv Thiessen as he continues to recover at home;

Austin Penner, as he continues to transition back to the community.

~ Welcome to our annual Thanksgiving Worship Service. As the Psalmist says, “It is good to give thanks to the Lord.” We want to recall and recount God’s many provisions for us, food, shelter, family, church, salvation; so many good gifts. ~The Eastview Place Fall Bazaar will be held on Thursday, October 4 from 1:30 – 3:30. Join us for an afternoon of coffee and dainties, the best bake sale in Altona, and enter the raffles for wonderful prizes from local businesses and our draw for a quilt, spa package and clothing rack. All proceeds go to improving the audio and video equipment for the residents at Eastview Place. We hope to see you there! Being a church event, this class is expected to painlessly mold you into the perfect parents you’ve always expected yourself to be, effortlessly producing the perfect kids you’ve always dreamed of having in this perfect world….in 3 easy steps! J Right. So…. No easy steps, no perfect world or perfect people… just a group of us, exploring together what being Mom or Dad to these little people God entrusted to us means, what God’s Word says about it, encouraging each other. The class will include videos with various speakers, discussions, a tips table, snacks, etc. and will be led by Char Klassen.

~ On Sunday, September 23, Bill & Ann Peckham from Eagles Wings Children’s Village in Uganda will be in our midst during the Sunday school hour.  They have a slide presentation as well as time for questions and answers.  We would extend an invitation for any Sunday school classes, as well as others to join us in the basement for sharing, listening and prayer.

BMC Mexico Missions Trip 2018-2019:

Dates: December 28-January 6 Cost: $1500-2000       Value: Priceless

Signup Deadline: September 23rd

Please pray and consider joining the missions team headed to San Carlos, Mexico over the Christmas break. We are looking for people who are willing to lend their skills and abilities in order to encourage various ministries in Mexico. There will be opportunity to do some painting, woodworking and carpentry, yard maintenance and clean up, Children’s ministry, perhaps some evangelism and handing out food hampers, as well as spending some time visiting with and encouraging the staff at Centro Educativo Cristiano and a few other local ministries. We plan to possibly spend some time in the community of Santa Maria where we poured a concrete pad during our last visit in order to help them with continuing work on their church building, as well as Arizpe in the Mountains where Benny who came to speak with us last summer is located. This will be a trip worth more than the money you pay to go. Pray about whether the Lord is asking you to be a part of this mission.

~ On Sunday, September 30th at 7:00 pm you are invited to the Gretna Bergthaler Mennonite Church to hear from Kerry Sanger-Harvey, the Mennonite Central Committee’s Indigenous Neighbours Program Coordinator.  In light of the recent set up of the Spirit of the Buffalo Camp just outside Gretna, we have invited Kerry to come speak with us about the importance of reconciliation and how it connects with our faith as well as answer any questions we might have. ~The Eastview Place Fall Bazaar will be held on Thursday, October 4 from 1:30 – 3:30.  Join us for an afternoon of coffee and dainties, the best bake sale in Altona, and enter the raffles for wonderful prizes from local businesses and our draw for a quilt, spa package and clothing rack.  All proceeds go to improving the audio and video equipment for the residents at Eastview Place.  We hope to see you there! Any finished craft items, plants, preserves and jams you would like to donate to the Bazaar would be greatly appreciated as well.  Donated goods should be dropped off at the East entrance on the morning of the Bazaar. 

~ The Fall Meeting for the Altona MCC Gift and Thrift Shop will take place on Monday, September 24th at 2:00 p.m. in the Altona Senior Center.  John Bergman, the guest speaker will be reporting on work in Mexico.  Everyone is welcome.

~ Yes!! You’ve heard right! A parenting class IS on the horizon!

Being a church event, this class is expected to painlessly mold you into the perfect parents you’ve always expected yourself to be, effortlessly producing the perfect kids you’ve always dreamed of having in this perfect world….in 3 easy steps!  J Right.  So…. No easy steps, no perfect world or perfect people… just a group of us, exploring together what being Mom or Dad to these little people God entrusted to us means, what God’s Word says about it, encouraging each other. The class will include videos with various speakers, discussions, a tips table, snacks, etc. and will be led by Char Klassen.

When? October 14 – December 2 @ 9:15- 10:15

And ….(drumroll please) childcare IS included for your little ones!!!!

~ Wanting to bless the young parents in our church, the education committee is planning to put childcare in place for the parents wanting to attend the parenting class beginning October 14.

Men and women of any age, if you enjoy holding babies (!), playing with small children, or just want to encourage the young parents in this way, Glenda Fehr would love to hear from you. Some people have already said they’d like to help out here, but hoping for many more.

It’s only for an hour. Help out for 1 Sunday, a few, or all of the 8 Sundays. It’s sure to be a ton of fun!

~ The funeral for Rita Driedger  (nee Schroeder), was held on Saturday, September 15 at the Altona Sommerfeld Mennonite Church.  Rita is the mother of Tammy & Enrique Loewen of Rosetown, and grandmother of Peyton Loewen.  We want to wish the family God’s comfort and peace during this significant milestone of their lives.   

~ It’s that time of year again! Clubs is right around the corner. Once again we are looking for leaders. We plan to start in November. Clubs is not a big commitment since it’s only every Wednesday. Teaching materials will be provided. Feel free to contact Rachelle Loewen @ 362-8323 if you have any questions or would like to be a leader

~ We are grateful that Margaret Klassen has recovered enough to be able to attend church.  It is good to see you in our midst and we trust that your healing will continue.

It is good to give to our God the praise that is his. Are you interested in sharing your musical gifts? We are looking for people willing to play offertory & prelude, special music, etc.

~ On Sunday, September 23, Bill & Ann Peckham from Eagles Wings Children’s Village in Uganda will be in our midst during the Sunday school hour.  They have a slide presentation as well as time for questions and answers.  We would extend an invitation for any Sunday school classes, as well as others to join us in the basement for sharing, listening and prayer.

~ “We are cleaning up the library shelves to make room for new books. Check out the table in the foyer for old gems to add to your own library. Any donations are accepted in the jar on the table.” 

             ~ Songs of Praise Sunday takes place on October 7. The music committee is asking for a men’s group to contribute some songs.  If there are men willing and able to join together, check with Rudy.  Let’s meet together at the front of the church after the service to decide upon a suitable rehearsal time. 

BMC Mexico Missions Trip 2018-2019:

Please pray and consider joining the missions team headed to San Carlos, Mexico over the Christmas break. We are looking for people who are willing to lend their skills and abilities in order to encourage various ministries in Mexico. There will be opportunity to do some painting, woodworking and carpentry, yard maintenance and clean up, Children’s ministry, perhaps some evangelism and handing out food hampers, as well as spending some time visiting with and encouraging the staff at Centro Educativo Cristiano and a few other local ministries. We plan to possibly spend some time in the community of Santa Maria where we poured a concrete pad during our last visit in order to help them with continuing work on their church building, as well as Arizpe in the Mountains where Benny who came to speak with us last summer is located. This will be a trip worth more than the money you pay to go. Pray about whether the Lord is asking you to be a part of this mission.
